Who doesn’t love a good old chocolate cupcake recipe?! I searched high and low over the past 10 years for my favorite cupcake recipe. I probably tried over 30 recipes! If you would like to see the original recipe, click here. During my quest, I felt a lot like Goldilocks! This cupcake is too dense, this cupcake is not fluffy enough, this cupcake is not chocolatey enough, and finally, this cupcake is just right! One of my favorite ways to top this cupcake is with some chocolate ganache, cream cheese frosting, and a fresh strawberry slice. I will have to share that recipe with you all soon. Whenever my kids want a chocolate cupcake for their birthday or for any occasion, I always reach for this recipe. It’s fluffy, moist, and has a rich chocolate flavor.
In celebration of one of my favorite holidays, Halloween, I share with you my favorite Good Old Chocolate Cupcake!
Ingredients for chocolate cupcake:
- Eggs
- Baking powder
- Salt
- Baking soda
- Sugar
- Flour
- Cocoa powder
- Vanilla Extract
- milk
- boiling water
- oil
Step-by-step instructions:
1. Mix all the dry ingredients together.
2. Now add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined, but do not overmix.
*The batter should be thick like the picture below.
3. Now add the boiling water and whisk all the ingredients until it becomes glossy and watery. Now scoop batter into cupcake liner, I usually fill it up 2/3 of the way up.
4. Bake for 15-18 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with just a few moist crumbs. Then remove from oven and allow to cool down for 10 minutes, then remove from cupcake pan and place on a wire rack to cool completely.
Now the cupcakes are ready to be decorated.
Good Old Chocolate Cupcake
This Good Old Chocolate Cupcake recipe is fluffy and full of chocolate flavor! Not only is this recipe good but you only need one bowl! Win-win!
Ingredients
- 2 c sugar
- 1 3/4 c all-purpose flour
- 3/4 c unsweetened cocoa
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 eggs
- 1 c whole milk
- 1/2 c vegetable oil
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 c boiling water
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Lined cupcake pan with cupcake liners.
In a large bowl put in all of the dry ingredients: sugar, flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix the dry ingredients.
In the same bowl add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix the wet ingredient together well with a whisk. It will be thick. Do not overmix.
Now carefully add the hot water. This will make the batter thin, so don't worry it's supposed to be a thin batter.
Scoop batter into cupcake liner 2/3 of the way.
