This is a delicious and easy Apple Dumpling recipe! Once it’s finished baking it’s literally gone soon after. We discovered this yummy recipe from Our Best Bites, one of our favorite food bloggers that we’ve been following for years! Our Best Bites originally found this recipe from The Pioneer Women’s Blog (another one of our favorite Bloggers!!) When we found this recipe and made it…it was so good we made it several times shortly after. What we love about this recipe is obviously how good it is, it’s quick to put together, and apples are plentiful during this time of year.
One surprise ingredient is soda, Mountain Dew to be specific. We’ve never cooked with soda before, so it was a surprise to see it as an ingredient (we haven’t tried it with Sprite yet), but that did not deter us from trying this recipe. Honestly, it blends in so well with all the other ingredients — the butter, sugar, cinnamon – that you don’t even notice the Mountain Dew flavor. With just a few ingredients you’re ready to whip up this delicious and easy apple dumpling dessert!
Ingredients for Apple Dumplings:
Cut apples in eighths. For each apple slice, I thinly sliced it some more (totally optional). Wrap up each apple slice in a crescent roll segment. Melt butter in a small pot, then add sugar and vanilla extract. Pour all over wrapped dumplings. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes or until golden brown.
Enjoy this simple dessert with a scoop of good vanilla ice cream!
Delicious and Easy Apple Dumplings
This delicious and easy apple Dumpling is a quick dessert to enjoy during a crisp fall evening. Made with just a couple Granny Smith apples and crescent rolls, this is enjoyed best warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Ingredients
- 2 medium Granny Smith apples
- 2 cans crescent rolls
- 2 sticks butter
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- cinnamon (for sprinkling)
- 12 oz. (1 can) Mountain Dew or Sprite
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350. Spray a 9×13 pan with non-stick cooking spray. Peel the Granny Smith apples and cut them into eighths. You can of course use an apple corer peeler. I just peeled and cut the apples by hand. For each apple slice, I thinly sliced it some more (totally optional)
Open a can of crescent roll dough. Separate each segment of dough and place 1/8th of an apple on each segment. Roll and wrap the apple in the dough. Place each rolled apple dumpling in a prepared 9 x 13 pan. Set aside.
In a small saucepan, melt butter and add sugar and vanilla. Stir to combine. Pour the mixture over the apples, then pour 12 oz. of Mountain Dew (or Sprite) on top of the apple dumplings. Sprinkle the top with cinnamon and bake for 40 minutes.
When the dumplings are done, serve immediately with a large scoop of vanilla ice cream and some extra sauce!
