Here’s a super-simple and delicious spaghetti with homemade meatballs recipe to add to your repertoire. The meatballs are tender and flavorful — browned on a pan, so the meatballs developed a beautiful color. To cut down on effort and cooking time, I cheated and use a good quality store-bought pasta sauce, but if you have some homemade sauce stashed in your fridge, go ahead and use that instead.
Ingredients for homemade meatballs
- ground beef (80-85% lean)
- Italian sausages
- Italian bread crumb
- water
- Parmesan cheese
- granulated garlic powder
- egg
- salt and pepper
Make sure to get a good quality cheese. I like to purchase my parmesan cheese in a block and shredded myself. Also, don’t throw away the cheese rind instead throw it in your pasta sauce to add more flavor.
In a big bowl add the breadcrumbs and water. Let that sit for about 2-3 minutes. The water will help hydrate the breadcrumbs which will help the meatballs stay moist.
Now add in the rest of the ingredients to the bowl and with your hand give everything a good mix. And with a small ice cream scooper form the meatballs.
Now put a medium-size pot on the stovetop on medium-high heat and add oil. Once the pan is hot add the meatballs. Make sure to turn over the meatballs so they brown evenly. If you’re using a small pan cook the meatballs in batches so the pan is not overcrowded.
Once all the meatballs have a nice golden brown color, add the pasta sauce to the pot and turn the heat to medium-low. At this point, throw in the cheese rind. Allow the sauce and meatballs to cook for about 15-20 minutes while stirring the sauce in between. After 20 minutes, the meatballs should be fully cooked and you can turn off the heat. Add the meatballs and sauce to your favorite pasta and dinner is ready!

February 16, 2021 at 6:10 pmYum, so simple and delicious. I actually just made meatballs for the first time. I wish I had known about using an ice cream scooper to make them all consistent. I just used my hands and some balls were bigger than others. Great tip, thanks! Otherwise, pretty tasty!!
