This is an easy yet fun project to make for Halloween. To make this Glowing Pumpkin Garland, you’ll need the basic tools and supplies (all listed below!). The LED candle and orange construction paper make quite a glow and will add to the rest of your Halloween setup! Just note, this does require the use of an X-ACTO knife, so if you’re planning on doing this project with with kids, please be sure to do the cutting!

Tools and Supplies Needed:

  • 8.5 x 11 Orange construction paper
  • Scissors
  • LED tealight candles (you can find some here – I definitely like the ones with a warm glow)
  • X-ACTO knife
  • Cutting mat
  • Single hole puncher
  • Yarn
  • Tape

Instructions for DIY glowing pumpkin garland:

Fold the orange construction paper lengthwise and then halfwise so there are four rectangles.

Cut the paper into the four rectangles. These will be our “pumpkins” we will be wrapping around the LED candles.

Take one of the four rectangles and one LED candle and place the candle at the bottom of the paper. Wrap the paper tightly around the candle.

Once you have it wrapped around your candle, make sure the seam is placed on the back. Now on the front of the roll, grab a pencil and lightly mark where the jack o’lanterns eyes and mouth will be.

Unwrap the candle, place the paper on the mat and finish drawing your jack o’lantern’s face. Once you are happy with your creation, take an X-ACTO knife (if you’re doing this with your kid, be sure to do this part for them) and cut out the eyes and mouth parts.

Once you’re done cutting, wrap the paper around the LED candle again and then tape the back. To make sure the LED candle does not fall out, place tape across the bottom to secure the LED candle.

Above the jack o’lantern face make sure to punch two holes on the side for the yarn or string to run through to make your garland.

Continue to make as many paper jack o’lanterns as you’d like — again punching two holes above on the top sides of each roll for yarn to run through.
