Who loves to play board games as much as I do? In this post we are sharing a few of In my family, I’m known as the Game Fanatic. My love for board games intensified when I went off to college at BYU and that’s all that we did there! I remember coming back home for the holidays and introducing my family to Uno Spoons. We had so much fun playing, but my favorite memory was of my mom’s competitive side coming out. My favorite memory was of how she would hand wrestle my siblings and me for a spoon. I think the reason I love board games/card games so much because it brings people together. I have so many great memories of laughing, snacking, and sharing stories as my friends and families played these games.

Over the years I have found a few board games and card games that I absolutely love. I force my family to play these games with me all throughout the year, but especially during the holidays and on New Years’ Eve night.

Favorite Games:

  1. Phase 10 – I love this game! I have countless memories of playing this game with my roommates and friends at BYU. When I introduced it to my sisters and cousins, this became our go-to game. When we would have sleepovers, we’d have fierce Phase 10 competitions!
  2. Skip-Bo – I have memories of playing this game as a youth on beach camping trips with the Bailey Family. They were just the sweetest family who would take my cousins and me on camping trips to the beach during the summertime. We’d cozy up in the RV, drink hot chocolate and play Skip-bo for hours. This game is similar to Solitaire but played with people!
  3. Blokus– My sister, Kalu, was actually the one that introduced me to this game. This is a 4 person player game. There are various shapes that you must place on the board while blocking other players in. It’s a great strategy game and your Tetris skills come into play in this game.
  4. Sequence – While living on the island of Dominica, my sweet and amazing friend, Whitney, introduced me to this game. In this board game, you and your partner must be in sync without looking at each other’s cards and put 5 coins in a row.
  5. Rummikub-This game requires some brainpower. There are number of chips that you can put in sets or runs. There are also sun chips that are played as wild cards, mirror, or change of color cards. This game is super addicting!
  6. Sherlock Holmes Consulting: Detective Jack the Ripper & West End Adventures Strategies board games- This is not your average everyday board game! If you love to solve mysteries and aren’t scared off too much by murder, this is the game for you. My brother, Ben, and sister-in-law, Marilyn, love board games as much as I do! Marilyn and I played this game for many, many nights. In this game, you are basically a Jr. detective who tries to solve the Jack the Ripper murder cases. There are clues and people that you must find and “talk” to. Such a fun game!

We hope you’ll try some of our favorite games and make great memories with your family as well!
