One thing I love about fall and winter are all the decorations waiting to be hung and placed around the house. Usually, I’ll use the same decorations or donate the ones that I no longer need. And most of the time I create new things, like this DIY Felt Leaf Wreath.
This wreath is pretty easy to make, however, it does take a while to cut and put everything together….so prepare to sit down, get cozy, and play your favorite movie. But once you’re done, you’re rewarded with a beautiful wreath ready to be hung on your front door, in your room, or used as a centerpiece.
The nice thing about this DIY is choosing the color palette. I chose bright fall colors, just like the real leaves falling and blowing around my house.
Tools/Supplies:
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun
- Hot glue gun sticks
- Wire side cutters
- Mini long nose pliers
- Felt, at least two sheets (or more – my sheets were 9 x 12) depending on how big you want the leaves and how many you want
- Green Floral Wire, 1/2 lbs.
- Wreath Frame
Directions:
- Cut out leaf shapes from the felt. Roughly about 3 inches long and 2 inches wide. Since I only used 4 colors, I cut out about 15 leaves per color for a total of 60 leaves (I did have a few leaves left over at the end of the project – also you can layer the sheets to cut out multiple leaves at a time)
- Next, cut the wire about 4 inches long. One wire per leaf. I then bent one end of the hook (as shown below). I did this partly because I wanted the glue to adhere to more than just the thin end of the wire.
- Once done cutting all the wire, get your hot glue ready. Place the hook part of the wire at the bottom of the leaf and add hot glue. Press and pinch the bottom gently (with caution) until the two sides are glued together.
- Continue until all leaves and wire are used. It will now look like a leaf with its stem.
- Start wrapping the wire around the wreath frame, alternating colors as you go. I started from the outside working in.
- During this part, I did use the long nose plier to help push down the end of each wire to flatten it down as much as I could so the wire wouldn’t snag or poke my hands (because that part is not fun!)
- Once done, fluff out the felt leaves to your liking and proudly hang your beautiful DIY felt leaf wreath.

November 13, 2020 at 7:32 pmOh this is soo cute!! I don’t mind projects that take a bit longer to do, especially this time of the year. It’s a good time to reflect on things and just be mindful of the project itself 😊
